Cutting VA Benefits is Exactly What We Shouldn’t Do!
As my supporters know, protecting and enhancing VA Benefits is one of my core passions. When it was reported over the weekend that Pentagon officials reviewing Secretary of Defense Mark Esper’s cost-cutting review of the U.S. Defense Department had proposed slashing military healthcare by $2.2 billion, I became extremely concerned and angry. Our veterans need more VA benefits, not less, and veteran’s health care should be improved and not dismantled like some in our government would like.
As a proud Army veteran, I have strong feelings about the importance of the U.S. Military, specifically the women and men who fill its ranks. My focus on veteran’s health issues go back to my time in the service and also later, when a very close friend of mine died waiting to see a Veterans Administration doctor.
The emotions I experienced when my friend was suffering, and we couldn’t get him a timely appointment with the VA, were hard to describe. Here was a person who gave of himself to serve our nation but when the time came to take care of him our government wasn’t there for him. This friend of mine ended up dying and I made it my mission to do anything I can to help other veterans in their time of need.
Fortunately, the proposed $2.2 billion cut didn’t happen and that was due to one man – Donald J. Trump. As President Trump said in a tweet, “A proposal by Pentagon officials to slash Military Healthcare by $2.2 billion dollars has been firmly and totally rejected by me. We will do nothing to hurt our great Military professionals & heroes as long as I am your President,”
While I thank President Trump for what he did, I am even more motivated now to see to it that our service men and woman no longer have to beg and wait for the health care that this country owes them.
Please join me in my fight to right these wrongs and preserve health care for our veterans. Voting for Martin Weber this fall is the first step in our fight to take back America – For The People!
